When choosing a retinol face cream, it is important to look for a cream that has a high concentration of retinol. Most over-the-counter face creams have a small percentage of retinol, and a larger percentage of other, non-effective, ingredients. It is also important to take a good look at the other ingredients that are inside of a retinol face cream.
In addition to retinol, alpha hydroxy acids are also good for your skin. Ingredients such as caffeine and peptides have not been proven effective, though many products contain these ingredients. If you want to purchase a product that is high in retinol, look for a product that does not have a large percentage of caffeine or peptides. A potent retinol face cream should have a .30 percentage, or higher, of this active ingredient.
Searching for a cream that does not have a long ingredient list is another way to buy an effective retinol face cream. When a product has too many ingredients, the result is a diluted cream that won't deliver the results you are looking for. Another way to select a retinol face cream is to shop according to consumer reviews.
Some brands are highly preferred by consumers over others. Taking the time to conduct some research into popular retinol face cream brands is a wise idea. Typically, creams that have been reviewed by dermatologists, and brands that have a solid reputation tend to be better than newly marketed creams. When looking at product studies, make sure that you read the fine print. Manufacturers want to sell face creams, which is why many creams boast claims that are not true. Find a product that has been proven effective by carefully reading product studies online or in magazines.
It is also important to note that most retinol products do not work immediately. After using a product for a few weeks, you may begin to notice changes in the appearance of your skin, but don't give up on a product if it does not produce desired results right away. If you do not see any positive results after many weeks of usage, look for a different cream. While a cream may work wonders for someone you know, the same cream may not work for you.
Pay attention to products that irritate your skin. If you notice that a rash occurs as the result of a new product, discontinue use right away. Likewise, you should not experience any kind of swelling or pain after using a product. Since your skin type is unique, you may find that some creams are too harsh, while others are not effective enough. After experimenting with different creams, you should be able to find a cream that's right for you.

The way to make skin look the best is a combination of a healthy skincare routine as well as careful application of makeup based on your unique skin type and needs. Drinking enough water can also help your skin to appear clearer and healthier. An even skin tone makes skin look healthy, fresh, and clear even without makeup. Of course, makeup can also make a big difference when trying to get an even skin tone.
One of the best ways to get an even skin tone is to regularly exfoliate the skin. A daily, gentle exfoliating cleanser, followed by an exfoliating scrub once a week, can help to slough off dead skin cells and make skin appear softer and fresher. Always use an exfoliating scrub that is designed for the face; one designed for the body can be too harsh. It is also possible to make your own exfoliator using oatmeal; search online for recipes.
Daily moisturization is important for an even skin tone as well. Be sure to apply a daily moisturizer with sunscreen for use during the day, and a thicker, richer moisturizer containing antioxidants at night. Antioxidants can help to repair cell damage and promote an even skin tone. When choosing products for use on the face, whether they are cleansers, moisturizers, or makeup, be sure to consider any allergies or sensitivities you have, and choose fragrance-free products if necessary.
Once you have developed a regular skincare routine, it may be necessary to use makeup to get a completely even skin tone. Choose facial products such as concealer and foundation to match your skin tone, being certain to keep the undertone of your skin in mind as well. Cool skin tones have bluish undertones, while warm skin tones have pink or yellow undertones. Test the products on the underside of the wrist or the back of the hand.
Then, apply dabs of concealer to any undereye circles, as well as any other areas of redness or blemishes on the face. The foundation may then be applied on top of the concealer; there are many different types of foundation available, though many people prefer tinted moisturizer to even out skin tone. This product combines a small amount of foundation and a moisturizer, and often works well to even skin tone for people who do not need to wear a lot of makeup and are just looking for a small bit of cover up.

When choosing a blemish cream, your primary consideration should be whether it contains ingredients that have been proved through reputable, clinical studies to fight acne. When it comes to treating blemishes using over-the-counter products, you will want to find a cream that contains either benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid. It is likewise important to choose a product that does not contain skin-irritating ingredients that can counteract the effectiveness of the cream and leave your skin looking even worse. If you find that a non-prescription blemish cream isn't sufficient for treating your breakouts, you should speak to a physician about your concerns. He can examine your skin and evaluate the blemish cream that you are currently using so that he can come up with a plan of action, which may involve prescribing prescription topical ointments or oral antibiotics.
For many people, an over-the-counter blemish cream can effectively eliminate or minimize pimples and blackouts. The important thing to consider when choosing a product is whether its active ingredient is effective in treating acne blemishes. Two of the most common ingredients used in various types of blemish cream are benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid. Benzoyl peroxide is an antibacterial agent that works on the bacteria that cause pimples, and salicylic acid can clear away dead skin cells that can clog pores. Salicylic acid also has antibacterial properties of its own.
If a blemish cream does not have one of these two ingredients, be cautious about using it to treat your acne. Some companies may claim that their products can be used on blemish-prone skin, but unless their cream includes ingredients that have been proven to work on acne, you may be wasting your money. You should also avoid using a blemish cream that includes skin-sensitizing ingredients, like citrus oils, as these can irritate your skin and cause redness and inflammation. Some companies sell tinted acne treatment products that purport to conceal blemishes. In many cases, these products may actually call attention to your blemishes because their pigments look unnatural on your skin. Don't buy such a product until you have a chance to test it to make sure that it is a good match for your complexion.
In many countries, you can purchase reasonably priced blemish cream at many drugstores and supermarkets. While you may be able to find high-end acne treatment products at department stores or through mail-order sources, you may find that these products are no more effective than less expensive alternatives. If you are watching your expenses, you may wish to try a drugstore-brand treatment before splurging on a product offered by a prestigious skin-care or cosmetic brand.

Perfume is a scented liquid worn on the skin to impart a pleasant odor. Originally intended to mask unpleasant body odors, perfume today is worn to entice the opposite sex, to make a personal statement, or simply to please the wearer. Perfume is made up of animal and plant-based aromatic compounds, dissolved in a mixture of alcohol and water. The amount of scented matter to solvent determines whether the blend is a perfume or a cologne. The aromatic portion can be botanical essential oils, animal musks oils, or nowadays, synthetic scents derived from various chemicals.
The highest proportion of scent is found in true 'perfume' - anywhere from 25 to 40% is pure scent. Pure perfume is rarely sold, since it is prohibitively expensive and, frankly, far too easy to 'overdo'. Most consumers are more familiar with eau du parfum, which is 15-30% aromatics.
Eau du Cologne and toilet water are more lightly scented perfume products. Originally, Eau du Cologne referred to a specific citrus-floral blend made in Cologne, Germany, which had a lighter scent and could be applied more liberally. It was a type of toilet water, which has 5-15% aromatic compound, but over time, the term became generic for and interchangeable with toilet water. Because cologne came to mean what toilet water originally meant, today most people usetoilet water to refer to an even lighter scent, one with only 3-5% aromatics. Toilet water is sometimes thought of as a 'splash' that can be liberally applied after bath or shower.
Another type of perfume is perfume oil. Perfume oils are similar to perfumes, with the exception that the solvent is oil-based rather than alcohol-based. They are preferred by people with dry skin who find the alcohol in most perfumes too drying. Oil-based perfume can be formulated into a solid perfume with the addition of a little melted beeswax, to make a waxy block that can be rubbed on the skin. Solid perfumes are often molded into pillboxes or tiny compacts to fit easily in a handbag for on-the-go applications, but be careful not to leave these in the car on a hot day!

Blemish balm creams, also called BB creams, are a type of healing facial cosmetic that originated in Asia. The multifunction balms can clear up skin problems and simplify the make-up process. Disadvantages include a narrow range of shades that favor pale skin, though Western brands are launching versions of the balms that come in a wider range of shades.
The original blemish balm creams are popular cosmetics products in Japan and Hong Kong. These balms often contain sunscreen and a whitening ingredient that can clear up spots of pigmentation on the skin. Regular use of the product can result in healthier looking skin.
Purchase of a blemish balm is meant to speed up the beauty routine. The balms serve as a foundation, concealer, and sunscreen. Coverage can be built up but not to full coverage, as the formula is somewhat thin. The balm can be applied with a cosmetic sponge, and should be blended well to avoid streaks.
Formulations exist for dry, combination, and oily skin types. The final finish of blemish balms ranges from matte to slightly dewy. A matte finish may cause the wearer to look paler than usual, but the use of a blush and a bronzer can offset the paleness.
Shade availability of the blemish balm creams is usually limited to two or three colors per brand. Warm or cool tones are available, though finding out which is which may take some research. Women with pale skin tones similar to those found in Asian cultures are most likely to find a suitable match, while darker skin tones will find the products far too pale.
There are blemish balms that boast the ability to color adjust to the wearer's skin tone as well, though this change may be slight and still disqualifies medium to dark tones. Some balms apply with a grey tinge that goes away as the product oxidizes. These should be applied 10 to 15 minutes before other facial make-up to give time for the color to change.
Buyers outside of Asia typically need to order the blemish balm creams online. This means that it is not possible to sample the products prior to purchase. It may take some trial and error to find a cream that matches the skin shade and type.
Western cosmetics brand have begun producing versions of blemish balm creams. There is usually a difference in wear or benefits between these and the Asian versions. Whitening and sunscreen protection are commonly left out of these formulas. The advantages include sampling the product at a cosmetic counter and a wider range of shades that will accommodate darker skin tones.

The B vitamins are a group of eight water-soluble nutrients essential to the optimal functioning of the body. The B vitamins are also known by their individual names or by denominations such as B1, B2, etc. For optimal results, it is ideal to consume the B vitamins as a group, rather than individually, although supplementation of certain B vitamins may be necessary in certain cases, as they do not accumulate in the body and cannot be stored for later use. The B vitamins include:

Vitamin C, a dietary compound found in many foods that humans eat, can be taken in supplement form as a complement to the vitamin C obtained through regular diet. Because it is an essential nutrient, in that it cannot be manufactured by the human body, vitamin C must be ingested via foods, such as citrus fruits, as well as through supplementation. In fact, some consider it to be the most popular of all nutritional supplements. Vitamin C supplements are available in many forms, from powdered drink mixes to chewable tablets, and have numerous associated health benefits, including boosting immune response, reducing inflammatory diseases, and slowing the aging process.
Also known as L-ascorbic acid, vitamin C is a water-soluble vitamin, meaning that it is readily dissolved in water and is passed in urine when taken in excess. The Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) for vitamin C is 75 to 90 milligrams daily; although the body can tolerate up to 2,000 milligrams daily, it is better absorbed when taken in smaller amounts. It is most greatly concentrated in plant sources — foods high in vitamin C include red bell peppers, kiwifruit, and broccoli — but can also be found in animal food sources since many animals can synthesize this vitamin. Because vitamin C is available in much smaller quantities in animals, people who do not get the recommended number of servings of fruits and vegetables daily might consider taking vitamin C supplements.
There are many known benefits to vitamin C supplementation. It is a powerful antioxidant that is linked to the reduction of inflammatory diseases, such as cardiovascular disease, hypertension, and cancer, and it has also been reported to boost immune response — increasing the body’s ability to fight infection. Additionally, taking vitamin C supplements has been shown to decrease low-density lipoprotein (LDL), or bad cholesterol, while elevating high-density lipoprotein (HDL), or good cholesterol. Because of these benefits as well as vitamin C’s link to fighting environmental toxins and slowing the aging process, city-dwellers in particular, as well as smokers and those at risk for cardiovascular disease, can benefit from supplementation.
Available forms of vitamin C supplements include powders that can be dissolved in water, tablets, capsules, and flavored drink mixes. Dosages can vary widely, ranging from 25 milligrams to upward of 1,500 milligrams, and even timed-release versions are offered. Since excesses ofvitamin C are eliminated rather than stored in the body, it generally is advisable that a person take multiple smaller doses throughout the day to maximize absorption. Though the risk ofvitamin C toxicity is low, it is considered wasteful to take vitamin C supplements in doses of more than 2,000 milligrams, as only a small percentage will be absorbed. Vitamin C can also be obtained by taking a multivitamin, where it can help aid the absorption of other nutrients, such as calcium and iron.

Like perfume, cologne is a type of fragrance. While most people are familiar with perfumes and colognes, these fragrances are quite different. All fragrances are characterized by a specific ratio of ingredients. For instance, colognes are made from a combination of essential oil extracts, water, and alcohol with an extract concentration of around five percent. This makes them the least potent of fragrances.
Perfumes contain the highest amount of extracts, falling anywhere between 20-25 percent. Directly following perfume is eau de parfum, which contains about 15-22 percent essential oil extracts. From here the concentration levels become much lighter, going to eau de toilette and then eau de cologne.
Although perfumes have been widely used since the 1600s, the first colognes did not surface until 1709. The creator of cologne has been a subject of debate, as many people cannot agree as to which inventor happened upon the fragrance first. What is agreed is the fact that both individuals were Italians and both lived in the same city at one time. Created in Cologne, Germany, the product originally had both medicinal and cosmetic uses.
Paul Feminis, who some believe first created the cologne fragrance, called his version Aqua Admirabilis. It was a blend of citrus and herbal essential oils that were diluted in alcohol. As it was originally made with grape alcohol, which could be consumed, it was often used hygienically as mouth wash. In addition, it was believed to ward off the bubonic plague. This original recipe is still produced in Cologne today.
Some historians believe that Feminis gave this formula to Giovanni Maria Farina, a relative, from which eau de Cologne, or “water from Cologne,” was developed. His was a blend of lemon, orange, bergamot, and lavender oils distilled in alcohol. The scent quickly found success throughout Europe, eventually making its way into North America.
Nowadays, most cologne sprays are men's fragrances. Unlike the sweeter aromas of perfumes, colognes are generally more light and airy with fragrances like citrus and musk. Although preferred by men, they are commonly used by both men and women.
Colognes can usually be applied more liberally since they are made with smaller amounts of oils than other fragrances. They are also much less expensive. All fragrances react differently according to one’s unique body chemistry. Therefore, when purchasing fragrances of any type, it is often a good idea to sample them beforehand.

Amber perfume is made out of a combination of essential oils and other ingredients. The fragrance, like the related fossilized tree resin, often has the appearance of either dark yellow, orange, or brown solid. When seeking amber perfume, you will want a brand that is made from quality essential oils, and not imitation ingredients. The best types of amber fragrances should also work well with your body chemistry.
The scent of amber perfume is renowned for its musky and warm fragrance, which sometimes also has honey undertones. One of the most common ingredients used in this type of perfume is the oil of labdanum, a fragrant resin from Mediterranean shrubs. Jojoba oil, sunflower oil, and vitamin E are other popular ingredients in amber perfumes.
One of the most costly types of amber perfumes contains oil made from ambergris, a wax-like substance derived from the regurgitation of certain foods from sperm whales. Ambergris is rare on the market due to the fact that sperm whales are an endangered species. Amber perfume made out of ambergris is the most expensive, but it is not necessarily more fragrant than other types on the market.
Amber perfume contains a variety of ingredients to help to give it the signature musky fragrance that many consumers enjoy, but there are a few ingredients that quality perfume should not have. Any form of alcohol can dry out the skin over time, and can even cause irritation in some people. Discontinue use of a particular brand of amber perfume if you experience itchiness and rash.
Despite all of the price ranges and ingredients used to make amber perfume, the most effective way to find your best brand is to test them. Your unique body chemistry works well with certain ingredients, and you will only know when you encounter them. A particular fragrance might smell good on paper, but completely different on you. If you are unsure after testing one, leave it on for a few hours to see how it reacts with your skin.
Amber perfume is often marketed as being derived from fossilized tree resin, which is used to make jewelry. The fact is that amber fragrances are not generally made from the fossils, because the resin usually does not have a scent. A brand that promises a perfume made from pure amber oil on the label is likely just an imitation of the essential oils used to make quality fragrances. It is important to check all product ingredients carefully to make sure that you are not paying more than the same ingredients found in more affordable perfume.

Lavender perfume is a popular fragrance derived from the essential oils of the lavender plant. Some types of fragrances are made solely from lavender, while others are mixed with other types of ingredients as well. The best lavender perfume has a recognizable scent that lasts throughout the whole day. This type of fragrance can also have calming effects, depending on the quality of the version that you choose.
Flowers from lavender plants are used to make many products with this type of scent, including perfumes. Lavender has a scent that is reminiscent of a mixture of greens and a subtle fruit-like sweetness. This type of perfume is popular because the fragrance is noticeable without being too overpowering.
One of the most important things to look for in this type of perfume is the ingredient list. Lavender perfumes with the best quality are derived from real essential oils from the scented flowers of the plant. Imitation lavender fragrances are often labeled as having natural scents of lavender, as opposed to the actual related oils. The types of lavender flowers used can also vary between brands, creating variations in the fragrances.
A more expensive lavender perfume does not necessarily smell better than a more affordable version. Aside from the quality of the essential oils, certain brands might work best with your own body chemistry. Before you purchase a particular type of lavender perfume, it is best that you test several different versions. Consider testing one at a time, lest you get confused over which brand had the best fragrance. You might also want to wear the perfume for a few hours before making your final decision.
Lavender itself is known to have calming effects that can be help to alleviate insomnia, depression, and stress. Some researchers believe that the regular use of the oil or other lavender products can result in improved sleep, reduced anxiety and better mental function. By wearing lavender perfume, you can help to increase the possible benefits of the essential oil every day. You will likely find that poor quality perfumes will not offer the benefits that you desire.
The plants are indigenous to the Mediterranean, but lavender is also widely grown in Australia, the United States, and Europe. The increased popularity of the calming scent is one of the reasons why many countries have taken on harvesting the plant in an effort to meet consumer demands. The plant is marked by woody branches, green oblong leaves, and blue-violet flowers.
